Noize-to-Go Records was first established in 1986 and has recently reopened after a brief hiatus to the joy of record collectors across Vancouver.

The record shop is situated one block East of Main Street along the Union Street bike route – a quick walk from Gastown, Mount Pleasant or Commercial Drive.

Noize-to-Go is a cozy little record shop but rigorous connoisseurship by veteran record enthusiast and shop owner Dale Wiese ensures that music fans will always find a few records on their ‘must-have’ list.

The shop primarily stocks used LPs and 45s but you can also find cassettes, CDs, imports and bootlegs that are sure to appeal to the knowledgeable music collector.

Owner Dale Wiese has been an integral part of record culture in Vancouver for over 30 years. His past projects include Quintessence, Collectors RPM, Track and Noize.

Dale is also an active participant in community events and local record fairs such as the Main Street Vinyl Record Fair.

Stop by the shop, check out what’s in stock this week and have a chat. You’ll leave knowing more about records than you did when you went in. And, chances are, you’ll leave with a few fine finds in hand as well.

SCRAPE Records opened its doors on November 1, 1997, and has never looked back since. Proud to be the only metal and hard rock specialty store in the Pacific northwest, SCRAPE Records quickly became known as THE place to visit for metal pilgrims from all over the world. An online presence was established in 1998, and the store’s reputation grew stronger. Visiting bands often hold in-store signings at SCRAPE Records, and we’ve had more than our share of visits from metal and non-metal celebrities. Some highlights over the years include:

  • In-store signings by Opeth, Testament, Amon Amarth, Strapping Young Lad, Arch Enemy, In Flames, Cradle of Filth, Cannibal Corpse, Meshuggah, Cryptopsy, Soilwork, and more
  • Releasing a compilation of Vancouver metal and hard rock bands, garnering world-wide attention for some our city’s finest acts
  • Performances by local bands in the store
  • An ever-expanding collection of metal and hard rock vinyl, we try to get our hands on EVERYTHING!
  • Coverage by local and national news media, including CBC Radio 3, the Vancouver Sun, the Georgia Straight, and more
  • Oft-used interview location for Vancouver’s own Nardwuar the Human Serviette on MuchMusic

SCRAPE Records is proud to serve the Vancouver metal community for over 10 years. In addition to stocking everything metal, we have lots of new and used rare items for the discerning metal collector. Need tickets for an upcoming show? We’ve got them! Our friendly and knowledgeable staff are always happy to help you out with metal recommendations, special orders, and for those non-metal-loving folks we’ll help you find that super-cool present for your metal-loving friend. SCRAPE Records… your true source for metal!

Red Cat Records is an indie neighbourhood record store in Vancouver, voted one of the top ten indie stores in Canada by our customers (CBC 3 Searchlight, 2008.)

We’re known for our customer service, music knowledge, and eclectic selection of current releases, new & used classic catalogue, and vinyl re-issues.

Dave Gowans and Lasse Lutick, both former members of Vancouver-based indie band the Buttless Chaps, co-own the store. They bought the store from original owners Andrew Pearson and Amy Honey in February 2007.

Red Cat takes it name from Buddy the cat, an enormous and cantankerous feline that ruled the store with an iron paw until his demise in ‘06. Though the store smells better now, he’s missed by many (though not by the children he attacked). He even inspired a full concept album by Ry Cooder: My Name Is Buddy.

Vancouver Vinyl Record Store Discount Card Participant? : Yes

Zulu Records is a Vancouver institution… and has been for over 30 years. Owner Grant McDonagh maintains a selection of about 30,000 new and used vinyl records from every genre imaginable. And of the 3000 square feet that isn’t filled with reasonably priced vinyl records is everything else a music fanatic could want or need.

Zulu Records has LPs, 45s, CDs, books, posters, videos, turntables, speakers, cartridges, record cleaner, record storage and, yes, the list goes on. Looking for concert tickets? Zulu Records is your place. And if they don’t have it (which is rare), they’ll let you know where to go.

Zulu Records also attracts big name artists who will often stop by the shop before the evening’s performance to play a tune and meet with fans. From Billy Bragg to Mother Mother to the Stranglers, over the years, Zulu Records has hosted a list of notable musicians that trumps most mid-sized concert venues. If you have the chance, do your best to make it down to one of these in-store concerts. These shows are not only intimate and acoustically sound… but also free of charge!

Zulu Records is the only record store of note in the West side of Vancouver because, well, they do it all and do it well. Their philosophy is accessibility. They’d prefer to keep margins low and deal in volume. This means you can snag a nice vintage turntable at Zulu for a good price ($100-$300) and receive fair compensation for your used vinyl records/CDs/etc.

Zulu also participates in community events such as the Main Street Vinyl Record Fair and proudly supports initiatives such as the Vancouver Vinyl Record Store Discount Card.

Zulu Records is a must-stop for any vinyl aficionado touring through the Vancouver neighbourhood of Kitsilano.

MadHouse Records is a private record store hidden away in the burbs of Burnaby about 20 minutes from Downtown Vancouver. But while a little off the beaten path, a drive out to MadHouse Records with friends has indeed become a Saturday afternoon tradition for many a Vancouver record aficionado.

MadHouse is open most weekends but a quick call to owner Rob Snopek and you can set up a private shopping appointment any ol’ day of the week.

As the only record store servicing the Burnaby area and away from the high concentration of record stores in Vancouver proper, MadHouse Records makes for a unique shopping experience. It’s an absolute must for any serious collector in the Lower Mainland as you are bound to find some choice records that don’t grace record store shelves very often… or for very long.

Owner Rob Snopek is very knowledgeable and keeps a robust collection. The store is about 99% used records (LPs and 45s) and mostly 60s/70s classic rock but also offers an impressive selection of punk rock and metal records.

On top of records, you can pick up vintage audio equipment, turntables and all sorts of music memorabilia such as t-shirts, posters, etc – all at good prices.

Rob does purchase used record collections and will travel to take a look if you’ve got the goods.

MadHouse often hosts events and in-store concerts for local artists. Check out their Facebook page for updates, concert announcements and a great feed of music history/trivia.

To book an appointment, call owner Rob Snopek at 778-868-0847.
